Mindfulness on the Mountain Weekend Retreat

Tai Chi on New Hope Bluff

Taught by Gordon Peerman and Ryan Black

Come join us for an early May weekend of Mindfulness on the Mountain. Ryan Black of Nashville Tai Chi and Wellness will lead the mindful movement of Qigong, integrated throughout the retreat. Kenneth Robinson usually leads us in the devotional chanting of Kirtan, but because of a scheduling conflict, Kenneth will not be able to be with us for this retreat. Gordon Peerman will weave guided and silent meditations into our practice.

This retreat will be structured around dharma poetry, or what we’re calling “The Poetry of Presence.” Gordon and Ryan will bring some of our favorite dharma poems, and together we invite you, if you like, to bring a favorite poem as well. Poets invite us to shift into a different kind of listening and speaking, out of our ordinary consciousness into more open-hearted and open-minded ways of seeing and hearing and feeling. Together we will let the poetry lead us into what we like to call “our improvisational jazz”:  our rather unique devotional mix of meditation and movement. We welcome both experienced and beginning practitioners.

Times for talking and times of silence will be strung together throughout the retreat. Spring in Sewanee is an especially delicious time of year, inviting us into its own special liveliness and energy. The poet Dylan Thomas calls Spring “the force that lights the green fuse.”

Come be with us and feel into the force that’s lighting the green fuse.

Bring loose, comfortable clothing for walking, sitting and moving meditation.
